Another weekend, another festival! This past weekend we packed up and headed to Toronto for the well established Greek festival called "Taste of the Danforth". Danforth is a street that is full of Greek businesses, restaurants, an Orthodox church, bakeries, and other businesses that the Greek community of Toronto may need. As you can see from the flags on the poles the city has nicknamed it Greektown and the roads are in English and in Greek--very neat!
Although we didn't know what to expect the one thing we did know is that there would be lots of food that we could taste. Being a family of foodies, it was great to walk along the street and buy food from the different restaurants and food stalls just depending on what you are craving. Amy and Merlin found some gyros and were enjoying a favorite food of ours.
My parents decided to join us and although it was too much walking for my mom, my dad seemed to find some things he enjoyed. Here he decided to buy some baklava, which turned out to be delicious.
All these quails were going to eaten later on during the day. Along with quail, gyros, souvlaki, spanakopita, lamb chops, meat pies and sweets were all in popular demand.
Although I was full Merlin decided I should have some chicken souvlaki which ended up having amazing flavour and was a food delight.
Merlin on the other hand was using the festival to enjoy lots of lamb. He had several lamb chops which were grilled and served with bread. He really enjoyed all the lamb!
We weren't the only ones who decided that it was a great day to taste all the Greek treats being offered. The Taste of the Danforth on average bring 1.2 million people down to Greektown to participate in food, music, a bit of culture and children's games! The amount of people on the streets reminded me of India, oh the memories!
A great day enjoying Greek food and culture while spending time in Toronto. Opa!!!
